FINAL YEAR PROJECT FOR BA (HONS) CONTEMPORARY TEXTILES
"COASTAL COOL" WAS MY FINAL YEAR PROJECT FOR MY BA (HONS) IN CONTEMPORARY TEXTILES. THE BRIEF'S OBJECTIVE WAS TO CREATE KNITTED TEXTILES AND GARMENTS SUITABLE FOR A CONTEMPORARY MARKET. I DESIGNED TEXTILES AND GARMENTS THAT EXPRESSED SHETLAND'S NATURAL ENVIRONMENT AND CELEBRATED NATURAL MATERIALS, INCLUDING SHETLAND WOOL.

I CHOSE TO DESIGN GARMENT STYLES AND TEXTILE THICKNESSES THAT COULD BE LAYERED AND WORN TOGETHER FOR A COHESIVE LOOK. THE STYLES WERE INSPIRED BY 'NORDIC COOL' SCANDINAVIAN INTERIORS AND STREET STYLES, WHICH EXPLORE CLEAN LINES, LAYERING, AND EXAGGERATED FEATURES ON CLASSIC GARMENT SHAPES. THE COLLECTION INCLUDES A JACKET, TWO SWEATERS, A TOP, AND A DRESS.

FOR THE TEXTILES, I DESIGNED VARYING PATTERNS AND TEXTURES INSPIRED BY ELEMENTS SUCH AS SEA FOAM, STONE TEXTURES, AND SHELL STRUCTURES. TO COMPLEMENT THE THICK, FLEECY SHETLAND WOOL, I INCORPORATED VARIOUS COTTONS, MONOFILAMENT, AND OTHER TYPES OF WOOL TO CREATE STRUCTURAL CONTRAST EXPRESSING MY INSPIRATIONS.
